Cervical Corpectomy is an advanced structural intervention reserved for patients with severe, multi-level cervical myelopathy or spinal cord compression caused by extensive bone spurs (OPLL), spine trauma, or bone destruction from infection/tumors. When simple disc removal (ACDF) is insufficient, the surgeon must remove the entire block of bone (the vertebral body) from the front of the spine. The gaping void left behind is reconstructed using a state-of-the-art expandable titanium mesh cage packed with bone matrix, which acts as a robust pillar to support the head, protect the spinal cord, and facilitate massive bone fusion.
Detalles del Procedimiento
Performed under general anesthesia through a vertical incision on the front of the neck. After safely shifting the trachea and esophagus, the surgeon uses high-speed surgical drills to completely hollow out and remove the diseased vertebral body along with its adjoining upper and lower discs. An expandable titanium cage is inserted into the empty column and dialed open to lock firmly into the healthy bone above and below. A heavy-duty titanium plate is screwed over the front of the cage to provide absolute biomechanical rigidity.
