Cleft Lip and Cleft Palate are common congenital birth defects where the tissues of the face and mouth do not properly fuse together during fetal development. This leaves a physical split in the upper lip and/or a hole in the roof of the mouth (palate), making it incredibly difficult for the infant to feed and, later, to speak clearly. India has vast experience in cleft repairs due to high regional volumes and charitable missions, offering elite pediatric maxillofacial surgeons who achieve beautiful, virtually scar-less aesthetic results and perfect functional closure for international patients and their children.
Détails de l'intervention
Performed under general anesthesia. Cleft Lip Repair (usually done at 3-6 months of age): The surgeon makes precise incisions on both sides of the cleft to create flaps of tissue. These muscle and skin flaps are meticulously stitched together to close the gap and recreate a normal lip shape and nose structure. Cleft Palate Repair (done at 9-12 months of age): The surgeon makes incisions on both sides of the roof of the mouth. The inner muscle and tissue layers are mobilized and pulled to the center, closing the hole between the mouth and the nasal cavity in multiple watertight layers.
