When a patient is diagnosed with a localized kidney tumor, the traditional approach was to remove the entire kidney (Radical Nephrectomy). However, modern uro-oncology dictates that preserving kidney function is vital for long-term cardiovascular health. Robotic Partial Nephrectomy utilizes the Da Vinci Surgical System to perform this highly complex "kidney-sparing" surgery. Because the kidney filters massive amounts of blood, removing a tumor from it risks severe bleeding. The robotic arms allow the surgeon to clamp the renal artery, rapidly dissect the tumor with extreme 3D precision, and swiftly suture the bleeding kidney tissue back together in a matter of minutes before blood flow must be restored.
Detalles del Procedimiento
Under general anesthesia, 4 to 5 keyhole incisions are made in the abdomen. The robotic instruments carefully expose the kidney and use intraoperative ultrasound to mark the exact borders of the hidden tumor. The surgeon temporarily clamps the main blood vessels feeding the kidney (creating ischemia). Working against a strict countdown clock (usually under 25 minutes), the robotic scissors cut out the tumor, and the robotic needle driver rapidly stitches the raw kidney defect closed using specialized sliding clips. The clamps are removed, blood flow returns to the saved kidney, and the tumor is extracted.
